A sinkhole that opened up in Ponte Vedra Beach swallowed up a woman's Smart Car and, if not for her quick thinking, almost swallowed her with it!
It happened inside of the Sawgrass Country Club just before 7 p.m. Monday.
"I saw some water on the road and I saw the security officer in his car at the corner, and I made my turn and 20 seconds later I had water in my Smart car up to my ears," driver Madaline Keeble tells our partner Action News.
Keeble says she drove over a water main break but didn't realize the ground was so saturated. When her little Smart Car started filling up with water, Keeble says she quickly grabbed her belongings and got out of the car.
She said a tow truck was on its way to pull her car out and that she's just glad she made it out in one piece.
The road where it happened is blocked off as the property management company investigates.
