A new scam has surfaced on a dating app.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says they’re received several calls from local residents who use “Plenty of Fish”. The residents reported that, after visiting the app, they got a call that appeared to be from SJSO, with the caller saying the victim needed to pay or face arrest for sending inappropriate pictures on the app. The victims did not fall for the scam, but SJSO is warning you to be on alert.

SJSO says their number is being spoofed, and the scammer even used the name of one of their employees. They say there are several known scams with people claiming to be law enforcement, the IRS, or some other authority position, with the caller demanding a transfer of money, gift cards, or other forms of payment. These are all scams that should be reported.
