Stages set for Northeast Florida's Congressional Districts 5 and 6

Jacksonville, FL — Following the August 28th Florida primary, the stage has been set for two of Northeast Florida's US House races.

In Congressional District 5, incumbent Rep. Al Lawson defeated former Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown in the Democratic primary.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked his supporters for the confidence they've placed in him, saying, "I promised you a year and a half ago that I would stand tall for you. Literally, tall in Congress. I've been doing that, and I promise you that I'm just getting warmed up."

Lawson will now taking on the sole Republican candidate, Virginia Fuller, in November. It's expected to be a tough race for Fuller, as this seat has long been held by Democrats, including, at one time, Corrine Brown.

As for Congressional District 6, which is currently held by Rep. Ron DeSantis, Republican candidate Michael Waltz will be facing off against Democratic candidate Nancy Soderberg.  Republican primary runner-up Fred Costello moved to quickly throw his support behind Waltz. Costello saying he's proud of how he finished, despite raising less than a third of what Waltz did.

This is a Republican seat that's seen as critical for Republicans to hold onto, as Democrats try to desperately flip it.
