PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — A major international event is just days away from welcoming thousands of people to our area.
THE PLAYERS draws huge crowds every year and this year is no exception despite concerns over the coronavirus.
The tournament is taking the threat of the coronavirus into consideration this year while still deciding to move forward with the event.
As crews prepare for their biggest event of the year, executive director Jared Rice said they’re ready.
“This is the strongest field in all of golf, it’s the hardest tournament to win and I think to have that in our hometown is a really powerful thing,” said Rice.
Rice said they spoke with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, as well as local and state health agencies for guidance.
“Making sure we’re prepared and understand what we need to do and what we can do as an event to provide a safe environment,” said Rice.
Next week, fans and players will notice an additional 42 locations throughout the property where you’ll be able to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.
“We’ll have some instruction and some encouragement for fans to consider our permanent restroom facilities, guidance on how to properly wash hands,” said Rice.
Tournament officials are also in conversations with vendors and other partners to make sure everyone is taking the necessary precautions.
