JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened on the city’s Westside.
JSO says it happened around 3:40 Friday morning off the 3100 block of 20th Street West.
They said they arrived on scene to find a man in his mid-30’s shot multiple times in both of his arms and his back.
That man was taken to a local hospital, and his injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.
JSO says the shooting happened after two masked men broke into the home.
They said there was a brief struggle between one of the suspects and the victim.
JSO said detectives with their robbery and violent crime unit were interviewing witnesses and canvassing for surveillance video.
One Jacksonville resident for over 30 years says this is why she stays prepared.
“I would hope that they had weapons in their home to be for self-defense,” she said. “If anybody broke into our home, you know, we’re prepared.”
She says the idea of someone breaking into her home is scary, especially as someone with a family.
“Have protection, either a dog or a gun,” she said. “Protecting yourself is the main thing because they don’t care when they break into your home — they’re coming in.”
