Jacksonville, FL — The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early Sunday fire in Putnam County that left two children dead.
Firefighters made the sad discovery after putting out the mobile home fire on New York Lane in Lake Como. The fire started just before 1am Sunday.
The fire was so intense that firefighters could not immediately get inside. It's not clear at this point how many adults may have been home at the time of the fire.
The Florida Division of Investigative and Forensic Services tells WOKV they have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but they have not found anything that appears suspicious at this point.
Family next door says you could hear the children screaming. Neighbors tell me the oldest was 6 years old. The fire department has not said if their mother was home at the time. pic.twitter.com/nuR8p8dOVO

Two children died in this trailer during a fire. Firefighters could not even go inside at 1 this morning because of the heat and smoke to save them. pic.twitter.com/yyKylHIN69

You can see a charred boxspring where someone slept. The fire looks like it started on the right side of the trailer pic.twitter.com/KaiBqXx79k

As soon as you walk up you can smell charred plastic, clothes and wood. Neighbors say it took firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish fire, but the trailer was hard to find. pic.twitter.com/UzMEq89Yl1
