Two city code compliance officers receive suspensions after controversy surrounding Jaguar Power Sports, military flags

Jacksonville, FL — Weeks after a controversy surrounding local business Jaguar Power Sports and whether their flying of military flags violated city code, WOKV has learned the two city code compliance officers involved have both received suspensions without pay.

New city documents we've obtained show Melinda Power, who had been accused of making a disrespectful comment to a veteran while inside the business, received a 10-day suspension. That suspension commenced on April 30th.

The documents say the city's review of the incident found her conversation with a customer 'escalated to an unprofessional and offensive display that was clearly disrespectful toward the business and its customers.'  The documents say Power, herself, acknowledged she should have walked away.

Other city documents show that the senior code compliance officer, who had been sent to assist Power with the investigation into the right-of-way complaint at Jaguar Power Sports, received a 3-day suspension, which also commenced on April 30th.

The documents say he should have aided in defusing the situation between Power and a customer, but didn't. The documents add that due to his inaction, the situation worsened.

We've learned that the two code compliance officers had been sent to the business together, because it was listed as a 'potentially difficult investigation' because the owner had failed to comply with previous requests to correct issues.

The City of Jacksonville has also released the following statement on the matter: 

“The City has concluded its investigation and rendered disciplinary action, ensuring accountability for the behavior conducted by the two employees. The results of the investigation.... were based on a comprehensive review of facts, findings, and statements expressed by both the veteran and business representative, who encouraged and requested that no employees face termination.”
