Jacksonville — Troopers say an 87-year-old Jacksonville man died after he was hit by a car on State Road 16 on Saturday. According to Florida Highway Patrol, Alwin Hoffman was standing in the eastbound outside lane of SR 16 near Fortner Road just before 10:30 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla. Troopers said Hoffman had just been in an unrelated minor crash in the westbound lanes of SR 16 and for unknown reasons walked away from that crash.
FHP says it's unclear why he was in the eastbound lane where he was hit. The driver of the car was not hurt.
In a separate crash on State Road 13 at Riverhouse Drive, FHP said 26-year-old William Hines was killed while riding a motorcycle. The man was coming up to a roundabout when he hit a curve and overturned the motorcycle, and was tossed onto the pavement.
