Jacksonville, FL — The University of North Florida will require incoming freshmen to take classes on anti-racism. The announcement was made by President David Szymanski at the end of a virtual candlelight vigil for racial justice held on Wednesday.
“We’ll also make it an integral part of the first day experience for all new faculty and all new staff so people understand who we are and what we stand for as an institution and in our society”, Szymanski said.
During vigil, Szymanski said UNF is also creating a vice president of diversity and inclusion, who will be responsible for bringing people together.
“UNF if not tolerant of racism. It doesn’t support it in any form or fashion”, Szymanski explained as he declared Black Lives Matter.
