UNF student accused of pointing gun at roommate, pulling trigger

Jacksonville, FL — A University of North Florida  student has been arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at another student and pulling the trigger, inside the Osprey Fountains campus housing.

Not many details were initially released by University Police, except that the gun didn’t actually fire and the weapon wasn’t located when they took the student in to custody.

The arrest report we’ve now obtained says the suspect is 19-year-old Cage Edwards. The victim told police he was sitting in his room when he heard a “gun being racked” and then a knock on his door. When the victim answered, Edwards pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim’s chest and pulled the trigger, according to the arrest report. The victim told police the gun “clicked”, but didn’t fire. Edwards allegedly left, and returned soon after to ask the victim if he was going to call police.

The victim spoke with another student in the dorms, and while that student was heading to the victim’s room, he saw Edwards’ door open, and the gun, money, and marijuana in plain sight, according to police. The two decided to report the incident to police. The student also gave police access to his Snapchat, which we’re told had videos of Edwards with the gun and smoking marijuana.

A gun safe was found in Edwards’ room, but the weapon wasn’t located in his room or car. Police did find a small bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. There is a portion of the arrest report which is redacted. It’s unclear if this reflects Edwards’ statements to police, but there is no clear motive indicated in the available documentation.

Edwards has now been arrested for aggravated assault, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
