Veterans, military receive free passport photos and notary services in November in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, F;a. — St. Johns County is offering all Veterans and current military members free passport photos and notary services throughout November in honor of Veteran’s Day. The St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller is making this service available to every former and current military member - not just residents of St. Johns County.

“Waiving the standard fees for these important services is just one small way we can thank our veterans for their service to our country,” said St. Johns County Clerk and Comptroller Brandon J. Patty.

Services will be available from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during November at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center, located on 4010 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine.

Individuals must present a military discharge record, a DD 214 form a military ID, a military dependent ID and/or a driver license with the veteran designation to be eligible.

Veterans can als file a DD-214 with the Clerk of Courts, a service made available for Veterans since 1919, at the end of World War 1, allowing a permanent digital copy to be filed in case the original is lost or destroyed. Recording DD-214′s are free,and records remain private for decades. As per the National Archives, DD-214s don’t become public record until 62 years after a Veteran is no longer in service.

Clerk staff will record DD-214s onsite at the annual Veterans Council of St. Johns County’s as part of their Veterans Day Celebration on November 11, at St. Augustine’s Anastasia Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. until Noon.

Veteran discharge papers may also be recorded year-round with the Clerk’s office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m.–5 p.m. at the St. Johns County courthouse.
