VIDEO: Clay County Sheriff’s Office welcomes new station dog ‘JP’

Jacksonville, FL — There’s a new face at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office-- a Labradoodle named JP.

Sheriff Michelle Cook says JP, which is short for Justice Patrol, is the agency’s station dog and has the ability to visit where he chooses at all of the agency’s buildings.

“JP has the run of the station and visits with people regularly. And, we’ve already seen that those that are having a bad day or suffering from some form of distress, he’s immediately drawn to them,” says Cook in a statement.

At night, JP stays with the sheriff’s office dispatchers or jail staff, who are there 24/7.

“Adding a station dog is an easy way to address member mental well-being. In the short time he’s been with us, we’ve already seen a positive impact in our agency,” says Cook.

The sheriff’s office says K9s For Warriors arranged for JP’s donation and initial care.

“K9s For Warriors is committed to helping our country’s heroes recover from the wounds of war. While our mission remains the same, we recognize the daily trauma our first responders also face. It became clear that K9s For Warriors can serve not only our military heroes who have protected us abroad, but also our law enforcement and first responder community who protect us here at home,” says K9s For Warriors Chief of Staff and General Counsel Patricia Dodson.

JP is now one of several dogs that has been donated to Northeast Florida agencies.
