Vystar, City reach naming rights agreement for Veterans Memorial Arena

Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena may receive new name

Jacksonville — VyStar Credit Union and the Jacksonville mayor’s office have agreed to terms to rename Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, “VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.”

A statement from Mayor Lenny Curry’s office said legislation to enact the agreement has been filed and sent to the Jacksonville City Council, and it will require approval before the name change could occur.

“In coordination with veteran leaders, my staff and VyStar, we have an agreement that is good for taxpayers and at the same time creates new program funding for veterans in our City,” said Mayor Curry. “This is a win for everyone involved, and I will work with the City Council to earn their approval.”

VyStar CEO Brian Wolfburg said “VyStar will be honored to have its name alongside our brave veterans’ on the arena. Both of our missions, to serve and recognize our great military, could not be more aligned. Based on VyStar’s deep roots in the military community, past and present, we can’t imagine a more suitable naming partnership.”

In addition to the naming rights, VyStar has also agreed to provide patrons the ability to donate to veteran programs when purchasing concessions and build a veteran memorial.  Veterans will also be offered discounts on concessions, tickets, and parking.

The details of the agreement, including whether VyStar will pay the city any money for the naming rights, have not been made available as of the publishing of this story.
