The decision follows mounting criticism over Bondi’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and comes ahead of her scheduled deposition before the House Oversight Committee on April 14.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced Bondi’s departure, saying she will transition to a job in the private sector. He praised her as a “Great American Patriot and a loyal friend.”
WOKV Political Analyst Rick Mullaney of the Haskell Public Policy Institute at Jacksonville University weighed in on the situation.
“The attorney general position in particular and that cabinet position under Donald Trump is very, very difficult because he wants both loyalty, which Pam Bondi certainly provided. But he also wants them to deliver on his priorities, which as an attorney general, sometimes they just simply cannot do that or it’s problematic because of the legal requirements,” said Mullaney. “I don’t think anybody has been more loyal to the President than Pam Bondi. She certainly is very loyal, and in fact Democrats feel that she’s been too partisan. But on the other hand, you could see that with Epstein files and the handling of the Epstein files and what the president views as ineffectiveness in going after James Comey, Letitia James, and others, that this was coming, this was going to be coming, and that’s what the president wanted to do.”
Bondi is the second Trump administration official in recent weeks to be cut from her post. Kristi Noem was removed as Secretary of Homeland Security last month.
Bondi served as the 87th United States Attorney General. Trump has named Todd Blanche as Acting Attorney General.
