Woman accused of killing her mother in Jacksonville Beach seeks insanity defense, according to court documents

Marla D'Andrea

Jacksonville, FL — Months after a Jacksonville Beach woman is charged with second degree murder for the death of her mother, we've learned her attorney is seeking an insanity defense.

According to court documents, Marla D'Andrea's public defender announced plans to rely on an insanity defense, with plans to establish that she has schizophrenia.

D'Andrea is accused of killing her mother, Barbara D’Andrea, inside her Jacksonville Beach apartment back in June and then taking off with her 7-year-old son, prompting a statewide missing child alert.

The two were later found at Orlando International Airport.
