CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A woman booked into the Clay County Jail on Friday died Saturday night after suffering a second medical emergency in less than 24 hours, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Cecilia Rae Manning was booked into the jail on Sept. 18 on several drug-related charges, the sheriff’s office said.
On Sept. 19 at about 12:40 p.m., Manning experienced a medical emergency. She was administered Narcan and taken to Orange Park Medical Center for treatment before being released back into the sheriff’s office’s custody and returning to the jail around 6:15 p.m. that evening, officials said.
At 8:37 p.m., jail nursing staff alerted deputies that Manning was experiencing another medical emergency. Members of the sheriff’s office performed lifesaving measures until they were relieved by Clay County Fire Rescue, according to the sheriff’s office. Those efforts were unsuccessful, and Manning was pronounced dead at 9:03 p.m.
The sheriff’s office said no force was used during Manning’s arrest or during her time in the jail.
The cause of death has not been determined, and officials said there were no obvious signs of trauma.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating and is working alongside the Medical Examiner’s Office.
