Jacksonville, FL — Investigators are working to learn what led to the drowning of an 8-year-old boy in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Police say the boy was in a pool at a home on Buffalo Avenue in the Panama Park area of the northside Saturday night when he went under.
The boy is the fifth child who has drowned in the Jacksonville metro area this year. According to the Department of Children and Families, 82 children drowned in the state of Florida in 2017.
DCF says adults should watch children in the water at all times and avoid being distracted by cell phones and lengthy conversations.
With a week left of summer for some #Jacksonville families, DCF is urging parents to keep a very close eye on children in pools. Coming up on CBS47 FOX30 at 6:30: The steps the agency says you need to take to keep your family safe @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/Xsbuo60ukz
