Florida woman donates blood for 300th time

NAPLES, Fla. — Donating is second nature to Diane Meyer.

The Florida woman met a personal goal Tuesday, donating blood for the 300th time at an area hospital, the Naples Daily News reported.

Meyer, 69 wore a red shirt as she sat down at the Community Blood Center at NCH North Naples Hospital, the newspaper reported.

Meyer has been donating platelets every other week since 2013, using the two hours it takes to read a book, the Daily News reported.

“I am proud of it because if I gave 300 blood products I made a difference in 300 people’s lives,” Meyer told the newspaper. “It’s a goal, it’s not a big deal to somebody else but it is for me.”

Staff members at the blood center presented Meyer with balloons and a framed tribute poem.

"Your time is precious and your blood is precious," Laura Rosen, the blood center's community relations manager, told the Daily News.

“It’s a very special day,” Kathy Moore, a registered nurse and 20-year blood center employee, told the newspaper. “It’s awesome.”

Meyer now is setting another goal.

"If I can donate another 10 years, I might make 500," Meyer told the Daily News. "As long as I am healthy, I see no reason not to."
