Florida is suing a dating company with an office in Jacksonville for “unfair and deceptive trade practices,” alleging the company would collect up to $10 thousand for a membership and fail to provide referrals to potential matches.

Singles Plus is a South Carolina company with an office at 8833 Perimeter Park Blvd, which is off of Southside Boulevard near JTB.  Kenneth Pogue is the president and founder, and Heather Olson managers the company’s Jacksonville office.

The lawsuit from Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Division of Consumer Protection names both Pogue and Olson as the defendants.

The lawsuit states:

-Singles Plus would falsely claim matches were made by trained psychologists and other licensed professionals.

-The company allegedly lied in claiming success rates in excess of 90 percent.

-False claims were made that all prospective members were screened to eliminate people who were married or who had criminal records.

-Singles Plus “falsely claimed that initial interviews with company representatives were free and without any obligation.”

-The company “Engaged in high-pressure sales tactics and failee to disclose to consumers that their initial interviews with company sales representatives were being secretly recorded and transmitted to other company personnel and offices.

The Attorney General’s Office says they’re seeking refunds for defrauded consumers, civil penalties, a permanent injunction, and attorneys’ fees.

On Tuesday, the court granted a motion for temporary injunction and an asset freeze.   A receiver was appointed and took possession of the defendants’ companies.
