The women attached themselves to poles holding up the skeleton of a large dinosaur at the Natural History Museum, according to The Associated Press.

“Unlike the dinosaurs, we hold our fate in our own hands,” said protester Caris Connell, 34, “Do we want to go extinct like the dinosaurs, or do we want to survive?”

The other activist, 42-year-old Solvig Schinkoethe, said that she feared the consequences of the climate crisis and how it would affect her four children, according to the AP.

“This peaceful resistance is the means we have chosen to protect our children from the government’s deadly ignorance,” she said.

The Last Generation group, which was behind the protest, said Germany must cut emissions immediately to stop mass extinctions, Reuters reported.

The protests come two weeks after environmental activists threw tomato soup on one of Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers paintings at the National Gallery in London.

Last week, a group of climate protestors threw mashed potatoes at an 1890 Monet masterpiece hanging in Potsdam’s Barberini Museum that sold for more than $110 million in 2019.

Monet’s 1890 oil-on-canvas masterpiece “Meules” was not damaged after the incident.

The latest protest in Berlin continued for 20 minutes until police arrived, according to the news outlet. It took officials 40 minutes to release the women from the poles.

The Natural History Museum did not immediately comment on the protest, the AP reported. However, a museum spokesperson said it had filed a criminal complaint for trespassing and property damage, according to Reuters.
