GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, Mont. — A grizzly bear in Montana met its match Sunday in a moose determined to keep the fearsome predator from snatching the second of her two newborn calves.
Uncredited videos that began circulating on social media Sunday show the moose chasing the grizzly down a road and into the water, USA Today’s FTW Outdoors reported.
According to the news outlet, Many Glacier Hotel employees were preparing the Glacier National Park resort for its June 3 opening when the captivating chase began, prompting myriad cell phone video recordings.
The primary video shared shows the moose give chase and the grizzly crash into a hotel window, but hotel employee Joshua Camareno told FTW Outdoors that the footage captured Sunday fails to tell the whole story.
WARNING: This video contains profanity.
The grizzly, Camareno said, snatched the first calf Friday night and took it into the woods, so the videos shot Sunday of the seemingly unprovoked attack makes more sense, knowing the mother moose was only protecting her remaining calf.
National Park Service rangers used a hazing technique to scare the moose and her calf back into the woods Sunday night, he said.
“I’ve seen the grizzly come back twice since then, looking for it,” Camareno told FTW Outdoors late Monday.
