Agape Family Health and JTA work in partnership for Wellness On Wheel

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has partnered with Agape Family Health to offer Wellness on Wheels — a mobile COVID-19 vaccine center. Agape Health says that the opportunity to collaborate with the Transportation Authority is part of their ongoing effort to expand access of the vaccine to help eliminate the spread of the virus.

Launched in March, the partnership has since vaccinated close to 8000 people, according to JTA.

“The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is a large member of our community,” said David Cawton, the communications director at JTA. “Since this pandemic began we have sought out different opportunities to help where we can.”

And help they did. The JTA retro-fitted four out-of-service buses into mobile vaccination clinics to venture into Jacksonville’s under-served communities.

“Agape Family Health identified a need,” continued Cawton. “To go on the road and help some of the under-served communities or go to parts of town where they were seeing a lot of vaccine hesitancy. Anyone who is eligible for a vaccine can come.”

According to Agape Family Health, the Wellness on Wheels mobile vaccine program is a win for the entire community. The collaboration not only provides access to those in need of the vaccine, it builds trust by responding to those in need.

Cawton said that they will continue to work with Agape Family Health to extend the COVID-19 vaccinations through the end of summer and possibly into the fall.

“It really depends upon how the community is affected by the COVID 19 pandemic,” said Cawton. “Wellness on Wheels will not have an expiration date.”

Appointments are not required.

Attendees must show a valid Florida ID. People need to allow 40 to 45 minutes to complete the vaccination process.

Second-dose appointments will be made available only to those with proof of having received the first dose.
