The City of St. Augustine is offering free trees for St. Augustine homeowners. It’s part of the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, and all you need to do is apply.
The application window runs from June 1 to August 31. It’s open to any homeowners with property inside the city limits. The city says the tree can be planted within the right-of-way adjacent to the property or on the actual private property itself.
When you apply, you can choose from nine tree species, and city staff will review the application and then conduct a site assessment to make sure the tree that’s chosen will work on the property.
Once all the applications are in, the city will do the final review in September and select the locations that work. All the trees will be planted sometime from November to February. Then it’s up to the homeowner to water and care for the new tree.
