JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The CVS Pharmacy chain is vaccinating Florida teachers of any age, which disobeys the state’s executive order.

A statement released this week by the pharmacy said it will be following the guidelines expressed by the Biden Administration. The federal regulations makes all teachers eligible for a COVID-19 shot, not just the people over the age of 50.

Day care and preschool teachers started getting their first dose at CVS stores on Wednesday, following updated Federal Retail Pharmacy Program guidelines.

Teachers will be able to get doses at all 17 states where the store administers COVID-19 vaccines.

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention says this March will focus on getting all school staff and child care workers their first dose, according to President Joe Biden’s announcement on Tuesday.

The state’s executive order is currently focusing on educators 50 years and older, residents 65 and older and anyone deemed medically vulnerable by a doctor.

Publix, Walmart and Walgreens have not made it clear if they will follow in the pharmacy’s footsteps.

Governor Ron DeSantis has not commented on the decision.

As of Thursday morning, only two cities in Florida had available appointments. The pharmacy updates availability on its website daily.
