Jacksonville — Florida Blue is kicking off its initiative Wednesday to get as many people vaccinated as we move into flu season.
This is the fifth year Florida Blue has teamed up with Walgreens to provide flu shots, as well as other types of vaccinations, at Florida Blue Centers across the state.
Locally, that means you can swing by the Florida Blue Center at the St. Johns Town Center on Town Center Parkway or the Florida Blue Center at the Winston Family YMCA on Riverside Avenue to get the shots for free. You don’t need to be a member of those places to get the shots there.
The first chance to get the shots is Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then Florida Blue will hold the vaccine drives again during those hours on Oct. 16 and 27, and then again on Nov. 3 and 13.
Insurance cards are welcome but not required. While supplies last, they’ll give you a $10 Walgreens gift card when you get the shot.
Here’s a breakdown:
- Flu shots are available for persons age 3 and older; Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are available to those 12 and older.
- People with health insurance should bring their insurance cards with them, even from a carrier other than Florida Blue. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are covered at no cost for persons who do not have health insurance coverage.
- In addition to flu and COVID-19 vaccines, also available are vaccines for pneumonia, shingles and TDAP. These additional vaccinations are covered at no cost by most health insurance plans or can be purchased by those without insurance
- Appointments are encouraged, but not required. Schedule an appointment at https://scheduler.floridablue.com/
- Masks are encouraged inside the Florida Blue Centers
