Jacksonville — The Gold Star Family Parkway officially opened today, making the trip to the Jacksonville National Cemetery much easier for people coming from I-95 north of the Jacksonville International Airport.

Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official transfer of ownership to the City of Jacksonville now that final construction is complete. We told you in September when the road first opened to traffic to the delight of veterans and their families looking to visit the cemetery.

The cemetery is on 526 acres of property that previously had one way in and one way out. Lannie Road was a dead end that went past the cemetery and was only accessible from Lem Turn Road. Now drivers can take the Gold Star Family Parkway from Arnold Road, which runs into Pecan Park Road.
