2 confirmed COVID-19 cases at Providence School of Jacksonville

Jacksonville FL — Some students at Providence School of Jacksonville were sent home Tuesday following two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Action News Jax has learned all junior and senior students at the school were sent home as a precaution, since those grade levels have a confirmed case. Schools officials said all the students were not exposed to the virus but, they were sent home to disinfect their classrooms.

School officials said they will follow the Centers for Disease Control Prevention cleaning guidelines to properly sanitize.

“Students who were directly exposed will be out for fourteen days. The others will return when we feel it is safe to do so. Our current plan is for students in 9th -12th grade to transition to remote learning, tomorrow only, to allow thorough cleaning of the high school spaces. In the meantime, high school students will use our virtual learning option to attend classes synchronously,” Tim M. Anderson, the Head of School, told Action News Jax.

Parents of affected students were notified via email, phone or through an emergency text message.

“In addition, an email has been sent to all parents of students in grades K-12,” Anderson said.
