Jacksonville, FL — Months after a disturbing attack on an 86-year-old Neptune Beach veteran, which ultimately resulted in his death, all three suspects involved have had their charges upgraded.
Douglas Cercy Jr. and Ray Jones III have now been indicted by a grand jury on first-degree murder charges. They were previously arrested in April for attempted murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping, along with Jennifer Schulte.
Police say the trio kidnapped and robbed 86-year-old Melvin Clark and then drove him to a remote location in the woods off of US Highway 301, where they allegedly slashed his throat, and left him to die.
Clark died months later at the hospital.
Schulte, Cercy, and Jones were all arrested in South Florida at a bus station, after allegedly stealing Clark’s cellphone, wallet, and car.
