An alleged puppy mill in Jacksonville has been shut down.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office has obtained a temporary injunction and asset freeze on five people from Jacksonville, who ran Five Star Bulldogs, Grand Bulldogs, Matrix Bulldogs, Brook’s Bullies and Remarkabull. Investigators say they illegally imported, bred and sold more than 700 English Bulldog puppies, potentially profiting more than $1 million.
Most of the puppies, allegedly imported from South America, suffered serious health or behavioral problems. Investigators say the suspects and other breeders they worked with did not have the proper permits or health records on the puppies and even forged some health documents.
A search of jail records shows one suspect, Brook Anthony Roque, has previous charges including petit theft, dealing in stolen property, burglary and pawning related crimes. Anthony Rene Roque, Glenda Chester Roque, Kassaundra Ann Buttram, and Michelle Lee Echols were also served injunctions, they have no prior arrests in Jacksonville.
WOKV is working through court records to learn more about what this legal action could mean for people who purchased puppies through any of these companies.
