CVS made a bold decision to pull cigarettes and tobacco products from its store shelves.
A local physician and board member of the First Coast American Heart Association says he hopes other stores will follow the trend.
"This is a break through for public health and public education about the dangers of smoking."
Dr. Dikram Gopal says it never made sense for CVS to sell tobacco products. He says a store that promotes health and a healthy lifestyle shouldn't sell cigarettes or tobacco products.
"I hope other pharmacies do take that same concept of eliminating a social ill."
Gopal believes the move will help reduce what he calls career smokers. He tells WOKV tobacco is the number one cause of death in the U.S.
CVS is expected to incur a revenue loss of two million dollars a year.
