Annual Light Boat Parade returns Saturday in Jacksonville

Jacksonville Light Boat Parade returns in 2020

Jacksonville FL — The annual Light Boat Parade, a staple in the city for 30 years, will return this weekend in Jacksonville.

Forty boats will be participating in this year’s event.

Action News Jax got a sneak peek at one of this year’s boat contestants.

Boat owner Jacquie Welti says she’s been a part of the parade since 1993. This year she’s giving it a more modern, kid-like feel with a 22-foot Elsa, a character from the movie Frozen. Welti said she chose to design her boat with Elsa so we can “let it go,” referring to 2020.

Despite this year changing many things, this event will look mostly the same, giving people some sense of normalcy. The only difference is that they’re asking people to spread out when watching the show.

There will also be a fireworks display, featuring waterfalls off the Main Street and Costa bridges.

Visitors can watch the free light boat parade at the following locations beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday:

  • Northbank Riverwalk
  • Southbank Riverwalk
  • Riverfront Plaza
  • Friendship Fountain
