Baker County Sheriff's Office warning about phone scam, involving demands for a money order

Jacksonville, FL — The Baker County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone scam they say is circulating, involving people claiming to be with their agency and with the Social Security Administration.

Deputies tell us the calls are coming from the number 1-410-670-5280 or from the sheriff's office number of 904-259-2231, with the individuals on the phone identifying themselves as Officer Garrett Foster and Officer Gale Stone.

The sheriff's office says the callers are directing residents to go to Walgreens and purchase a money order to mail to them.

Deputies want you to know, they will never call or email you asking for your financial information or direct you to purchase a money order or debit card.

If you get one of these fraudulent calls, you reach out to the sheriff's office at 904-259-2861. If the callers try to claim they’re with the SSA, you can report that call to to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at 1-800-269-0271.
