Jacksonville — A new emergency facility serving Northern Clay County and West Jacksonville is expected to open early next year.
Baptist Health says the $23 million dollar facility with have 20 beds and serve as an emergency center.
“It’s easier access for that critical care when they need it the most,” says Baptist Health Vice President of Ambulatory Campuses and System Emergency Services Darin Roark says.
The location will serve adults, and have a dedicated wing for a Wolfson Children’s Emergency Center.
“Kids are different than adults, and we really look to take care of the whole family in one emergency center, in a very specialized way,” Roark says.
The Baptist/Wolfson Children's Emergency Center at Oakleaf will be the health system’s ninth emergency center in the greater Jacksonville area. The center is expected to be 19,000 square feet. Baptist says the center will have all of the diagnostic services available at a hospital-based emergency department, including a full service lab, X-rays and a LifeFlight helipad.
Baptist Health says this center is the “first step” in growing a medical campus.
“We felt that it was a good time to expand our services and offer additional opportunities for residents to not have to drive to perhaps our Downtown facility or our South facility, but to basically take the emergency room out of the hospital and transplant it right there in the Oakleaf community,” Roark says.
They have purchased 8.6 acres and plan to add more to the site in the future, including a medical office building.
