Jacksonville, FL — A Jacksonville man has been extradited from Daytona Beach to Jacksonville, after reportedly confessing to killing a woman that was his fiancee.

WOKV first told you Monday about the scene off White Blossom Circle, near Bartram Park Trail. At that time, JSO said they had been contacted by Daytona Beach Police, who were detaining a man that had confessed to killing a person in his home.

JSO now confirms 51-year-old Wilford Chason has been arrested for second degree murder. He was detained at the Volusia County Jail through mid-Tuesday, but Duval County Jail records now show he has been booked locally.

JSO says they were actually first contacted by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, who had Chason detained under the Baker Act. FCSO says OnStar notified first St. Johns County, and then FCSO, as an apparently suicidal man was driving on I-95 heading south. The FCSO case report says OnStar helped FCSO slow the vehicle, which had been going as fast as 90 miles per hour and was not stopping for law enforcement. Stop sticks had to eventually be used to bring Chason to a complete stop.

FCSO says Chason apparently cut himself, and was suffering severe lacerations to his neck and arms, and had other minor lacerations.

JSO says Flagler County investigators say he confessed to killing his wife in their Jacksonville home. JSO performed a welfare check on that home, and found the victim.

After Chason was released from the Baker Act, JSO says he was transported to the Daytona Beach Police Department, where he confessed again.

The victim has been identified as Jennifer Herbert. Chason told police that the victim was his wife, according to JSO. FCSO identifies the victim as Chason’s fiancee, citing his family. Facebook posts publicly viewable by Chason and Herbert show they had gotten engaged last November.

FCSO says a woman’s engagement ring was found at the scene where Chason was detained. FCSO says it had blood along the band, so it has been logged as evidence.

JSO says they do not have any known history of domestic violence involving the couple. Chason has not given any reason for his actions, and it is also unclear why he was driving where he did.

Herbert’s cause of death has not yet been released.
