A fifth grade class at Biltmore Elementary jumped to action when their teacher collapsed, but it was not enough to save her life.
We’ve confirmed 43-year-old Mildretta Chapple collapsed in front of her class Tuesday, which was the second day of school in Duval County. The students ran to another teacher to get help, and that man tried to find a pulse, but couldn’t. He then performed CPR and called 911. Chapple was taken to the hospital, and was soon pronounced dead.
“The entire community of Biltmore Elementary School and Duval County Public Schools is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of one of its staff members. To support the well-being of students and faculty, specially trained school psychologists and social workers will be onsite today at Biltmore Elementary School, and will provide continued support as needed,” says a statement from the Duval County School District.
The JSO incident report says there are no signs of foul play and natural causes are suspected. The hospital told investigators Chapple suffered from high blood pressure.
