Bolles students present plan to make beach wheelchairs easier to rent in St. Johns County

Jacksonville teens charged with planning attack on Bolles School

Students at The Bolles School’s Ponte Vedra Beach campus created a Lego project to make beach wheelchairs more accessible in St. Johns County, and now county commissioners are looking into making the idea a reality.

The team is part of the First Lego League Program, and they presented they idea to county commissioners last night.

The fifth-graders tell our news partner Action News Jax that their idea is to start an app-based program that would let wheelchair users rent beach wheelchairs by simply checking when and where they are available. After reserving one, you would get a four-digit code to unlock the wheelchair, and while you are at the beach you’d be able to store your normal wheelchair inside.

St. Johns County says they’re looking into making the idea happen, and they’re hoping to have more details about the future of the project in the next 30 days.
