Jacksonville, FL — A child and two adults were rescued following a harrowing event near the Mayport jetties on Tuesday. Their vessel had quickly flooded due to conditions that were reported to be up to six-foot, 63-degree seas.
Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations noticed debris in the water, then saw three individuals stranded on the jetty.
Their boat was on the other side of the jetty, flooded with water and being pushed toward the rocks.
A CBP crew used a vessel mainly used in coastal waters to combat maritime smuggling and defense to rescue the trio. One adult had severe lacerations on his feet and legs.
“Our Agents are trained to the highest standards, and on days like this, that pays off. The conditions were daunting, but they were able to get these people to safety,” said Director Jesse Wozniak of the Jacksonville Air and Marine Branch.
