Calling it the next step in revitalizing Downtown Jacksonville, the City of Jacksonville and Jaguars joined together to break ground on the new amphitheater and flex field construction project.
“Today is evidence that we’re well on our way to becoming the best,” says Jaguars owner Shad Khan.
The facilities are going up next to EverBank Field as part of a $90 million package split between the City and the Jaguars. The project also included renovating the Club Level inside of EverBank Field- work that’s done and in place for the kickoff of the football season.
“We no longer want to settle for being underrated, we no longer want to be a well kept secret,” Khan says of the City.
The new facilities will collectively be named Daily’s Place, under a new naming rights agreement with Daily’s. WOKV has confirmed the actual naming rights deal between the Jaguars and Daily’s must still be approved by the City Council, but there is no timeline yet for when that will come forward. A City Spokeswoman tells WOKV the City will not be receiving any revenue under the naming rights deal.
Both facilities will share a roof and be connected at multiple levels to EverBank Field. The design serves to “create a cohesive environment for events and festivals”, according to the Jaguars. The flex field can either be completely enclosed, or opened for open-air access and to link with the amphitheater.
“We are dreamers, and we are decision makers, and we will take action to get things done,” says Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry.
The new facilities are expected to be done by May 2017.
