Jacksonville, Fl. — According to data gathered between January 1st and March 31st, 2018 the best days to fill up are Sunday and Monday with the best day to top off on Tuesday. They suggest Thursday and Fridays are the worst days to fill up and top off.
Consumer Warrior Clark Howard wants drivers to be aware of new software programs gas companies are turning to that uses artificial intelligence to change prices throughout the day.
"These software programs are able to pinpoint when during a day people are the most price sensitive and when they are just looking for gasoline."
For drivers who are price sensitive, Clark suggests they start paying attention to gas prices when their tanks get to half.
Another rule Clark lives by when it comes to buying gas is to not worry about buying by brand but instead buying the cheapest brand you can find.
"If you want to make sure that gas is okay, you can buy what's known as top-tier gas. If an off-brand is selling top-tier it will say at the pump."
Clark says that means it’s ultra-high-quality gasoline. He also suggests skipping out on premium gas saying that almost no cars or vehicles need premium. Clark suggests you can save a huge amount on each fill-up by switching over to regular.
