Clark Howard warns of new scams targeting your stimulus check

With this latest round of stimulus checks going out as part of the recently passed American Rescue Plan, WOKV’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says you need to be on the lookout for a new round of scams.

“Anytime there’s a program that gets a lot of publicity, the scamsters come out of the woodwork,” warns Howard.

He says there are two different scams to watch out for.

“There are people who are emailing you or texting you saying, pay him this money, they’ll get your stimulus check. Or they’re saying fill out this form and you’ll get your stimulus check. Both cases are lose-lose, especially the second one, because that’s about full identity theft,” says Howard.

Howard says if you need to check on the status of your stimulus payment, go to the IRS website directly at irs.gov.
