The superintendent in Clay County will remain an elected position.
At times it's been contentious between the Clay Superintendent, Charles Van Zant, and the school board but it will remain an elected position.
"I think anytime power is consolidated into the hands of fewer people especially politicians the citizens lose. Every time you take away somebody's right to vote liberty loses."
The school board wanted to have the power to appoint the superintendent because of it contentious relationship with the current superintendent Charles Van Zant. On Tuesday, More than 60 percent of Clay County voters cast their ballots in favor of keeping the position elected, not appointed.
"It's a big win for the students in Clay County, Florida. With the 2 new board members, we'll have the right blend of maturity and stability."
