Jacksonville, Fl — It’s a gift of literacy, connection, and confidence.
Jacksonville’s Pace Center for Girls on Tuesday cut the ribbon of a new library, funded by the Elaine Stallings Foundation.
Her husband, Jim Stallings, says his late wife was a lifelong advocate for reading.
“They have to fight. She had to fight. They had to overcome their environment. They needed a chance and support, and that’s what I believe the Pace Center represents is a safe place to learn, to start again, and really excel and achieve your dreams.”, Stallings said.
Elaine created The Book Exchange to be a safe place to inspire, and uplift young women through reading and the exchange of ideas.
The library was created by a women-led team, including the designer, construction leadership, and even furniture procurement.
The new space supports girls’ growth and opportunities.
Pace Center for Girls Jacksonville opened in 1985 and serves girls throughout Duval County through partnerships with community agencies.
