Jacksonville FL — You might start to see gas prices drop when you fill up eventually after Monday's sell off on Wall Street over coronavirus concerns. Patrick De Haan with Gas Buddy says the immediate future of gas prices remains unclear, but if the virus continues to spread, then that could lead to a lower demand in oil, which could lead to a drop in prices.

“You look at China, flights have been canceled, tens of thousands of flights, transportation networks have been shut down and it means much less oil demand.” De Haan says.

He says no matter what happens you can expect to pay more for gas by April and May but how much you’ll pay will depend on how severe coronavirus continues to spread globally.

“By Memorial Day, with the onset of refinery maintenance that usually happens, and with the transition to summer gasoline, we eventually will be paying more at the pump.” De Haan says.
