Jacksonville, Florida — The University of North Florida’s newest president, Dr. Moez Limayem says he feels both excited and humbled about his first day in office. President Limayem says his first order of business is to, “hit-the-ground listening.”
The new president plans to go on a “listening tour” to discover what the Osprey community needs as students and faculty return for the upcoming school year. He hopes to share his passion for learning with his new student body.
“Education changed my life. It really has changed my life,” Limayem says. “We are in the business of improving lives, and that’s the best business you can be in.”
President Limayem begins his position as the new leader of the Ospreys amidst an ongoing pandemic concerns and new educational mandates such as Florida’s Stop Woke Act. His response includes having honest communication, as well as, finding a dialogue between the laws and students’ rights.
“First of all, we understand the laws and see how we can respect the law, but also at the same time respect academic freedom, and the freedom of speech,” Limayem says.
According to the new president, with the right kind of dialogue and communication, academic institutions can help students learn, “how to think, not what to think.”
Limayem joins the Ospreys as the seventh UNF president since 1969, and is replacing former president, Dr. David M. Szymanski.
President Limayem’s previous leadership experience includes being Lynn Pippenger Dean of the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida.
