JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 42-year-old mathematics teacher employed by Duval County Public Schools has been arrested on charges including child abuse and offenses involving at least one student.
Brian Orr was taken into custody following an investigation into alleged criminal acts involving a pupil, according to jail records.

Orr is an instructor at Darnell Cookman School of the Medical Arts. The school principal confirmed the law enforcement action in a communication to parents stating that administration is cooperating fully with the official inquiry.
According to jail records, Orr faces charges of offenses involving students by an individual in a position of authority. The charges include physical contact with a victim between 16 and 17 years old, in addition to a charge of child abuse, records state.

DCPS shared the following message that Principal Paul Davis sent to Darnell Cookman families:
“Good evening Viking Nation,
This is Mr. Davis. I am contacting you regarding a developing situation. I have been informed that math teacher, Brian Orr, was arrested tonight by Duval County Public Schools Police in collaboration with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in connection with an active investigation involving the following reported charges: (1) offenses against students by an authority figure, (2) lewd touching of a minor, and (3) child abuse.
“At this time, I am cooperating fully with law enforcement. Because the investigation is ongoing, I am limited in the information I can share at this time. However, I will continue to communicate with our school community as additional verified information becomes available and when appropriate.
“I understand that news like this can be concerning and unsettling for students and families, and I recognize the questions and emotions this information may bring. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are taking this matter seriously, and I want to reassure you that our school remains focused on maintaining a safe, supportive, and secure environment for every student and staff member.
“Thank you for your trust and partnership as we navigate this situation. Have a good evening.”
