Jacksonville, FL — Back to school planning is entering a new phase, with just over two weeks before the first day in Duval County Public, the district is going to purchase cleaning solution that will sanitize classrooms for up to 90 days.
The School Board also approved a $30 million contract to lease up to 50,000 laptops, so that every student has a laptop available.
Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene also outlined plans for closing schedules if there is an outbreak of coronavirus in a classroom or a school building.
The first day of class is set for Thursday, August 20th. At least 35,000 students had signed up for the Duval Homeroom as of Monday. The district says there is an additional 1,200 applications that are being processed. That accounts for about one-third of the district population.
I'm tuning into tonight's Duval County School Board meeting. Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene just shared this closing procedure chart for when a student tests positive for COVID-19 or there's an outbreak at a school. All students would do Duval Homeroom until it's safe to return. pic.twitter.com/ZVcOP5zVGS

DCPS said the goal is to have no more than two students per seat on a school bus. They hope Duval Homeroom enrollment will help reduce the # of students taking the school bus. DCPS said school buses will have hand sanitizer on board and back-up masks for students without them. pic.twitter.com/h3VvHnKCXE
