JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Catty Shack Ranch. You know it as rescuers of lions and tigers, and now bears.
Multiple animals are joining the dozens who already call Catty Shack their forever home.
Executive Director Curt Logiudice said the animals were rescued from a zoo up north and are currently in quarantine.
Twelve new animals arrived safely today at the wildlife sanctuary on Jacksonville’s north side.
Six red foxes, three bobcats, a caracal, and two black bears are now “fur-ever” residents of Catty Shack Ranch.
“I don’t know what I was thinking,” said Logiudice.
Logiudice said the 12 animals will stay in quarantine until it’s safe to move them.
“Stressful things happen when people move. It’s stressful on animals too,” said Logiudice.
The rescue comes weeks after the sanctuary was forced to stop public tours because of COVID-19, which impacted fundraising.
Logiudice said the sanctuary does not receive any grants or public funding, so the rescue is not without hopes that the community will pitch in to help keep operations at the sanctuary running smoothly.
He says donations will go a long way.
“We have a huge plan that we’ve been working on for many years: being able to put together a new park and have a capability, not only being able to have for our own animals but new areas for new animals to come like what happened today,” Logiudice said.
Tours are back open to the public now.
