DCPS teachers required to wear masks in schools for 30 days

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Duval County, Duval County Public Schools has issued a 30-day mask requirement for teachers.

DCPS Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene released a letter to staff stating that the mandate officially goes into effect on August 2 and requires that any and all staff, vendors and visitors wear a mask on school grounds for 30 days.

After 30 days, staff can decide whether to wear a mask or not.

This announcement comes right after Florida Gov. DeSantis said he plans to sign an executive order that bans schools from requiring masks on students. DeSantis signed the order late Friday afternoon.

DCPS looked at guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Florida Department of Education to make this decision.
