JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Security will be enhanced Friday morning at Sandalwood High School after a threatening statement was reportedly made on social media, Duval County Public Schools said.
A message sent to parents from Sandalwood assistant principal Rhonda Motley said “students reported hearing a person on a live social media feed making a statement threatening violence at our school.”
The enhanced security measures will include bag checks and additional police officers at the school, Motley said in the message.
Here is the full message that was sent to Sandalwood families:
“Hello Sandalwood families, this is assistant principal Rhonda Motley calling. I’m sorry to interrupt your evening tonight, but I am sure you will want to know this information. Earlier today, students reported hearing a person on a live social media feed making a statement threatening violence at our school. As you know, we take all reports of threats seriously. Law enforcement has been involved, and tomorrow we will be implementing enhanced security measures including screenings, bag checks and additional police officers at the school. I wanted you and your students to be aware of this so they are not surprised when they arrive at school in the morning. Everyone’s safety and security is always our goal, and we are thankful when students and others share this type of information with us. See something – say something remains one of the best strategies we have to maintain a safe school community. Thanks for your attention and I look forward to seeing your students in the morning.”
