Man shot and killed in Jacksonville’s Grand Park neighborhood, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A family is heartbroken after their loved one was shot and killed in a Grand Park neighborhood.

Police say a man was shot to death around 1:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon after they found his body in a backyard of a home near Lionell Street and Erline Drive.

“It just seems like a dream to be honest. I wish it was fake but it’s not and it hurts,” a cousin said. She didn’t want her name shared and wasn’t comfortable giving the victim’s name either, but she told Action News Jax he was 29-years-old and had a child.

“Outgoing, very loving and caring,” she said. “Every time I seen him it was like, ‘I love you cousin, I love you cousin.’”

A neighbor who lives across the street called it a drive-by shooting but police weren’t able to confirm that information.

“The guy lived across the street from me and he must’ve been running to get out the way because he ran to the white house on the corner and collapsed in the backyard there,” neighbor Lucy Banks said.

Action News Jax saw several evidence markers on the ground and police were taking pictures of the crime scene while searching through a few cars and homes in the area.

The cousin told Action News Jax she’s not sure why or how this could’ve happened.

“I don’t understand why someone would actually want to do that to him,” she said.

Police say they have no suspect information and are asking anybody who might know something to give them a call at 904-630-0500.

Action News Jax will keep you updated once more information becomes available.
